明治前は神楽を舞うことのできたのは法印や神職だけだったが、明治にこの禁が解かれた。そこで五穀豊穣の祈願と兵役についた同僚の武運長久を祈ろうと、明治26年に東磐井郡長島村（現平泉町）の菅原慶治、千葉清の神楽名人から伝授された。
南部神楽の系統に属し、神代ものが多く演じられる。
Traditionally, only hoin (or yamabushi, mountain hermits) and Shinto priests had been allowed to perform kagura, but the regulation changed in Meiji period (1868-1912). Then those with interest learned it from two masters Keiji Sugawara and Kiyoshi Chiba from Nagashima village, Higashi-Iwai district (currently Hiraizumi town, Nishi-Iwai district) in 1894, to pray for bountiful harvest and good fortune of soldiers in battles.
The Oide Kagura belongs to the lineage of the Nanbu Kagura, with its repertory abundant in pieces related with the Japanese mythology.
